MILITARY MUNITIONS RESPONSE (MMR) AND GEOPHYSICS PROJECTS

Environmental Restoration Program
Fort Wingate Depot Activity (FWDA)
TPMC performed a focused removal of surface and subsurface debris and residue from OB/OD operations, in-place stabilization of remaining materials and slopes, installation of surface water diversion and retention facilities, and long-term groundwater monitoring. We performed digital geophysical mapping (DGM) services to identify and then stage and disposed of over 28,000 live ordnance items. The 900 items considered too sensitive to move, were blown-in-place.

DGM Characterization, Removal and Remediation
This location operated four practice ranges for weaponry ranging from handguns to submachine guns for the Army and FBI. TPMC performed detailed DGM and characterization, surface clearance and removal of more than 300 subsurface. We prepared the design documents for the full site remediation consisting of UXO removal and excavation, removal, and disposal of contaminated soils, range residue, and debris (munitions, lead bullets, bullet fragments, and bullet casings). TPMC was consequently awarded the remediation contract and will begin work in Spring 2014.

Active Range Clearance Services
TPMC provided Munitions and Explosives of Concern (MEC) and Material Potentially Presenting an Explosive Hazard (MPPEH) support services including UXO escort and avoidance; surface and subsurface removals; demolition; inspection and certification of Material Documented as Safe (MDAS). System integration of the detection instrumentation, a global positioning system (GPS), and the site GIS system provided current data and accurate mapping of all detected anomalies site wide.

Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study (RI/FS)
TPMC completed work at multiple locations on this high-volume and complex contract performing MMRP characterization, risk assessment and feasibility study with significant regulatory and stakeholder interaction. TPMC performed the RI/FS for this 230 acre MEC surface clearance project using a VSP geostatistical model that reduced project costs by 50%. We also used Metal Mapper technology to provide high quality DGM data that facilitated the Record of Decision (ROD) approval. Based on the quality of our performance, we were awarded, and are conducting, the remedial design and remedial action (RD/RA) for the USACE, Albuquerque District.
